Microsoft Student Partners is a worldwide educational program run by Microsoft to empower individual students as Student partners, so they can lead their local community and empower them. MSPs are student leaders and drive change for good and educate people to make them enthusiastic about technology and make people more adept with technology.

I was selected into the Student Partners program in January 2020, and I am currently a Alpha 2 Student Partner. As a part of the community outreach program, fellow Student Partner Ayan Raj and I conducted our first event as MSPs. The event was held on 15th February, 2020 at our college, Institute Of Engineering and Management.

Me, taking a session on Cloud Computing.

The Agenda

Student Partner Ayan Raj.

The event consisted of three parts. Firstly, Student Partner Ayan Raj conducted a session about the Microsoft Student Partners program. He also inspired the attendees to take part in various competitions like the Microsoft Imagine Cup. He, being a very experienced in various fields gave us many tips on how to develop ourselves as person. He also shared with us, lot of his successes and shortcoming in life, and what we can learn from them. His session was very informative.

Myself, I took a session on Cloud Computing using Azure. Explained the importance of cloud computing using real life examples and explained the way it works. Talked about the costs and financial needs for more implementation of Cloud Computing. Made them understand the differences between Capital Expenditure and Operational Expenditure model. Deployed website using Azure Cloud and also tested the performance of the website.

Me, taking the session.

Explaned about Microsoft Power BI and also explained some real life examples using Microsoft Power BI. Power BI is a Cloud Based data analytics tool which can used to work on large amounts of data and draw useful insights.

Technical Coordinator Balaka Biswas.

We also conducted a session on Python programming using Azure. We discussed data structures in python. Technical co-ordinator Balaka Biswas conducted this session. She discussed the importance of various types of in-built data structures in python and showed live demonstrations on them.

Overall, the event went well as we were able to discuss the things efficiently and there was active participation by the attendees.

The Response

Around 150 students took part in the event, with maximum participation from the 1st and 2nd year students. They were enthusiastic and enjoyed the event. This is the true purpose of such events. Empowering the people around you and we hope to develop as a community.

Growth as a Community

As the first event in our college saw good response, we are sure that we will grow as a community and prosper. Technical coordinators helped in many tasks related to the event.

The event Technical team.

The technical team consisted of Balaka Biswas as co-speaker, Joyatee Datta(top row female, blue top)and Aditya Saha as logistics and event support coordinator.

Abhirup Pal(top row, leftmost), Debayan Ganguly(between Balaka and Abhirup) and Sayanti Dutta(between Balaka and Joyatee) as core technical team. Debjeet Banerjee (bottom row, beside me) , was the event photographer and also gave us valuable suggestions on various aspects of the event. Though, not in the photograph, Siddhanta Ghosh looked after the graphic designing and E-Poster making for the event.

The event was a success and we look forward to more events in the future.
