Machine Learning Summit: Workshop 1
Innovación, the annual Techno-Management fest of Institute of Engineering and Management in association with Microsoft Student Partners of Institute of Engineering and Management and Google AI: Explore ML are conducting a Machine Learning Summit on 24–26 April 2020.
To equip the students about the various tools required to implement Machine Learning, we are conducting a series of workshops. The 1st workshop on basics of working with data and plotting was conducted on 23/02/2020 at IEM Gurukul Campus.
The event was a community event, and was free to attend and open to all. We wanted to give everyone a starting point to get some hands-on learning about working with various Python tools. Students are confused about where to start, hence we tried to give them the necessary push.
Shivam Aranya took sessions on basic python operations using numpy. He elaborated on the various numeric tools in numpy and gave a good explanation about them. Students were able to understand and implement them on their own.
He also taught how to use pandas to work with dataframes and the importance of dataframes. He gave ample examples to demonstrate their use and showed how pandas is used in dealing with data.
Many students were new to the concept of Jupyter notebooks or Google Colab, we took the time to explain these things to them and ensured that everyone gets an idea about how to get things done.
Sayantan Das, a Google AI facilitator was instrumental in the proper delivery of the workshop. Being highly experienced in the field of working with data, he guided the workshop attendees throughout the event and explained them everything. He gave a lot of dedication and hard work into the event.
I took a session on the needs of data analysis and data visualisation using Matplotlib. I demonstrated various types of plots and explained the importance of all the plots. I explained with real life examples various use cases of analysing data and how efficiently working with data benefits us.
Souham Ghosh is among the managers of the ML Summit event. He coordinated various aspects of the event, making everything streamlined. The event logistics and the overall administration of the event was done efficiently, thanks to him.
The workshop was a success, gaining good response and the learners were able to grasp the concepts. They had learnt a lot of things and we felt good that we, as a community could give something back to the community. Have a look at our social handles to gain more idea about the event. We are hosting the ML Summit event as a part of Innovacion. The link to the Github repository for the event material is also given below.
